Description
Get ready for Red Ribbon Week with our “Happy, Healthy, Drug Free Me” Presentation Card. Every year, Red Ribbon events teach young people about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Promote the awareness event with this colorful and informative handout.
The handout begins by explaining that drugs change how the body and brain work and that they can make people think or act differently. Using drugs can have serious side effects. People who use drugs may get addicted or suffer from organ failure, brain damage, and death.
Drugs use can also have other far reaching effects. To include job loss, poor school performance or school expulsion, confusion and memory loss, and a criminal record.
Refuse to Use! Say “No” to Drugs!
With all that in mind, it’s important for young people to know how to say “no” if someone offers them drugs. They can respond honestly, letting the other person know that they have no interest in drugs.
Another suitable response is to just walk away. This technique sends the message loud and clear. Young people can also make a joke of the offer. This may diffuse the tension of the situation but it also communicates that the young person won’t back down.
The last refusal technique shown suggests an alternative, drug free activity. This suggestion can even help to take the focus off of drugs and distract everyone from using drugs. When kids learn how to refuse to use, they’ll help to safeguard their future.
