Description

This retractable display provides a comprehensive overview of alcohol awareness. Ensuring that your audience will understand just how dangerous Alcohol Abuse can be. Alcohol is the most commonly abused substance in the U.S. Every year about 80,000 people die from alcohol related causes, making it the third leading preventable cause of death. One of the key elements in reducing this number is early education as well as prevention efforts.

The size of an alcoholic drink doesn’t matter, but the amount of ethanol in a drink does.

Ethanol is the active ingredient in alcoholic drinks. It’s a depressant and also addictive. There is the same amount of ethanol in 12 ounces of beer as there is in 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of liquor. Short term drinking causes diminished reasoning abilities, lowered inhibitions, impaired coordination, blurred vision, slower reaction time, memory loss, nausea, and vomiting. The long term effects of drinking are much more serious. Individuals who abuse alcohol may develop liver or heart disease, cancer, brain cell damage, gastric disorders, or alcoholism.

There is a difference between abusing alcohol and alcoholism. Alcohol abuse may cause health, personal, and legal problems as well as physical addiction. If addiction develops then alcoholism follows. Users become dependent on alcohol and will suffer from withdrawal symptoms if they stop drinking.

A BAC of 0.08 is considered legally drunk.

Blood alcohol content (BAC) is a measurement used to determine the amount of alcohol in the bloodstream. A BAC of 0.30 may cause alcohol poisoning or death. A DUI conviction may result in fines, jail time, and a criminal record. Drunk driving is the #1 killer of people under 21. Most states have a zero tolerance policy for drivers under the age of 21 with a measurable BAC.

If you Binge, you Bust.

Binge drinking has received a substantial amount of media attention in recent years since it is a common habit for those under 21. 90% of underage drinkers and binge drinkers are 14 times more likely to drive drunk. Binge drinking is rapidly having 4 or more alcoholic drinks. This banner emphasizes that it is illegal for anyone under 21 to consume alcoholic drinks. Consequently, underage drinkers could end up paying fines, losing their driver’s license, or going to jail.
