Description
This succinct, double sided rack card advises readers that trichomoniasis is a common, curable sexually transmitted infection. Trichomoniasis or “trich” is caused by a tiny one celled parasite. It affects women more than men. Most people with trichomoniasis have no signs or symptoms. However, symptoms may develop over time. When signs and symptoms develop, they are different for men and women. Men who have trichomoniasis typically have no symptoms.
Risk factors include multiple sexual partners and not using condoms during sex. The primary source of trichomoniasis is vaginal intercourse. Treatment involves both partners taking one large dose of a certain oral antibiotic. If left untreated trichomoniasis puts people at greater risk for contracting HIV and AIDS from an infected partner. Moreover, a person can become re-infected after treatment if exposed again. Abstinence, limiting sex to one uninfected partner and condom use are recommended for prevention of the infection.
