Forward Feed Magazine – Overcoming Depression and Preventing Suicide Issue
Mental Health Awareness magazine for teens, High School and college students.
The Problems Facing Suicide Prevention Education
Reaching teens with effective suicide awareness information is a tricky business. Digitally delivered content is often overlooked, social media advertising is ignored and traditional broadcast media is difficult to produce and expensive to deploy. So what can you do? Reason dictates that placing information directly into the hands of teens is an effective way to ensure that a lasting impression is made. But will they read it?
Our Solution
We created Forward Feed Magazine with high school and college aged young people in mind. Our idea was to use a magazine style format together with a cutting edge design, filled with images of “relatable” teens, packed with just the right amount of mental health information to change the attitudes and opinions of its readers.
We took great pains in developing and designing the content so that the main prevention message of each section is clearly identifiable at first glance. Bold headlines and main ideas take precedence. Readers may “drill down” for greater detail and nuance. The format utilizes large, bold images, and small text to image ratio to encourage reading.
Every Overcoming Depression and Preventing Suicide Magazine includes information on:
- Definition of depression, and how it is more than just feeling down
- Common symptoms of depression
- Brain development and its link to mental health in young adults
- Substance abuse and its addictive, destructive nature to those suffering from mental illnesses
- Definition of self-harm and potential signs to look for in someone who is self harming
- Reasons why individuals self harm
- Suicide: definition, signs and statistics on young adults when it comes to suicide and suicidal attempts
- How to reach out to someone showing signs of suicidal thoughts
- Anti-bullying encouragement as it is linked to depression and suicidal thoughts
- Common cyberbullying tactics
- The stigma surrounding mental health and suicide, and the reason why there is a stigma in the first place
- Myths vs. facts in a question and answer format to combat the stigma around mental health
- Encouragement for young adults to see a professional if they are suffering from mental health
- Suggested resources the reader can use in times of a mental health crisis
Every page includes information on how to reach out if the reader or someone they know is also suffering from mental health issues.
